March 18, 2023 - Motor Vehicle Theft

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Motor Vehicle Theft incident on the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Saturday, March 18, at 7:45 AM, a vehicle theft occurred in Lot C, just north of the Sweeting Center. The vehicle belonged to a contractor working on campus. The vehicle was parked at 5:30 AM and observed missing at 1:34 PM.

Suspects: At least two unknown suspects entered Lot C in a black Dodge Durango. One suspect was wearing black athletic clothes with white accents. We were not able to ascertain any specific descriptors.

Suspect’s Vehicle: Black Dodge Durango with grey racing stripes with Illinois license plate DS 32985

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is investigating this incident. If you have any additional information about the incident or observe the suspect’s vehicle, call 911.

November 6, 2022 - Aggravated Assault

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of an Aggravated Assault incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Sunday, November 6, 2022 at approximately 2:15 AM, gunshots were heard near campus and Public Safety learned that the Chicago Police Department was searching for one of the shooters in the area of campus. A lockdown was initiated on the Chicago campus. The shooting occurred on the street at 321 W Chicago Ave. One shooter was arrested and one firearm was recovered shortly after the incident. A second shooter fled north. Four shooting victims were cared for by the Chicago Fire Department or at Northwestern Hospital. No one within the Moody community was involved or in the area. While the search area included Moody’s campus, at no time did any of the gunshots take place on campus, towards campus, nor were any of the offenders present on campus. Around 3:00 AM, The Chicago Police Department had information that the second shooter left the area in a second vehicle, so the campus lockdown was ended at that time.

Suspect: Unknown suspect(s) in a black Cadillac Escalade with New York plates.

June 30, 2022 - Robbery

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Robbery incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Thursday, June 30, 2022 at 2:05 AM, a student employee in Lot C witnessed an armed carjacking on Wells St. Chicago Police Department received separate notification of the incident and responded. The incident occurred at approximately 881 N Wells St. A white SUV drove in reverse, southbound in the northbound lane. Three unknown subjects exited the vehicle, approached an idling vehicle, which was taken by threat of force. One of the men displayed a firearm. Both the white SUV and the stolen vehicle fled northbound on Wells St. No one within the Moody community was related. To our knowledge, at no time was the firearm discharged, nor were any of the offenders present on campus.

May 5, 2022 - Aggravated Assault

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of an Aggravated Assault incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Thursday, May 5, 2022 at 10:06 PM, gun shots were heard near campus, Public Safety received calls about the gun shots, and a lockdown was initiated on the Chicago campus. The shooting occurred on the street at 804 N Wells. The unknown shooter fled west in a vehicle on Chicago Ave. The victim who has been identified was shot three times. No one within the Moody community was related. To our knowledge, at no time did any of the gun shots take place on campus, towards campus, nor were any of the offenders present on campus.

There was a second shooting at Chicago Ave and State St. around the same time, but the events are not believed to be related.

Suspect: Unknown suspect(s) in a brown sedan

April 24, 2022 - Aggravated Assault

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of an Aggravated Assault incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 6:17 PM a lockdown was initiated on the Chicago campus. This was the results of reported gun shots in the neighborhood near Orleans St. & Locust St.  A man and a woman fled into a nearby building at 312 W Chestnut St., where MBIPD and CPD arrested both and recovered a weapon. Another two offenders fled south in a white sedan.

To our knowledge, at no time did any of the gun shots take place on campus, nor were any of the offenders present on campus.

Suspect: 2 known suspects in custody; 2 unknown suspects.

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is investigating the incident.

March 8, 2022 - Aggravated Battery

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Robbery incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Tuesday, March 8, 2022 at 2:51 PM a robbery occurred at the intersection of Chicago Ave. and Wells St. on the edge of our campus near Culbertson Hal. A man produced a knife and made threats of harm in order to steal a cellphone from another man. Neither person was associated with Moody.

Suspect: 1 known suspect in custody

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is handling this incident.

October 7, 2021 - Aggravated Battery

October 7, 2021

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the Federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of an Aggravated Battery incident near the Chicago campus.

Reported Offense: On Thursday, October 7, at 2:15 AM, a shooting occurred on the street at 900 N Orleans St, west of the Solheim Center. This incident did not involve anyone from the Moody community. An unknown person in a red Dodge Charger shot into two other nearby cars.

Suspects: Unknown suspect(s)

Investigation:  The Chicago Police Department is investigating this incident.

Other Information/Safety Tips
This is the third similar incident recently in the near north neighborhood. These incidents have occurred between the hours of midnight at 4am.

    • Avoid any nonessential travel during those hours.
    • Avoid traveling alone at night.

May 6, 2019 - Robbery

Monday, May 6, 2019

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Robbery incident that took place on the Chicago Campus. No weapon was used.

Reported Offense: Monday evening around 7:30 PM a man forcefully took another person’s cell phone. This occurred on the east side of the Sweeting Center at 860 N LaSalle Blvd. The suspect fled south, then west across Wells St. where he was arrested by the Chicago Police Department. The victim was not part of the Moody community, but a nearby student witnessed the incident and provided important information for the police.

Suspect(s): One male suspect

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is handling the arrest.

March 18, 2019 - Robbery

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Robbery incident that took place near the Chicago Campus. A small silver handgun was used.

Reported Offense: Monday night at around 9:00 PM a man was sitting in his vehicle on Walton St. just south of the Solheim center, when two men approached, knocked on his window, displayed a weapon, told him to get out of the vehicle, and demanded he leave his cell phone. The suspects then fled west on Walton St. and south on Franklin St. in the stolen vehicle. No one from campus was involved in the incident.

Suspect 1: Male; 5’5-10”; Age 18-25; African American; 120-150 lbs; grey hoodie, ski mask
Suspect 2: Male; 5’5-10”; Age 18-25; African American; 120-150 lbs; ski mask
Vehicle: Chevy SUV 9928LY (IL)

February 13, 2019 - Robbery

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of a Robbery incident that took place near the Chicago Campus. A handgun and a knife were used.

Reported Offense: Wednesday morning around 1:10 AM two armed males entered a Subway restaurant at the BP gas station located at 750 N. Wells St. They demanded cash from an employee at the store and showed they were armed with a knife and a handgun. During the encounter, one of them cut the employee in his back and arm. The men left in a red Jeep Renegade with some cash. Paramedics took the employee to Northwestern Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Suspect(s):
Two male suspects, both wearing hoods and scarves to hide their identities.

Investigation: No one is in custody. The incident was caught on a surveillance camera. The Chicago Police Department is handling the investigation.

January 17, 2019 - Aggravated Assault

In compliance with the "Timely Warning" provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998, Moody Bible Institute is giving notice of an Aggravated Assault incident that took place on the Chicago Campus. A small silver handgun was used. The victim was not part of the Moody community, but does live in the neighborhood.

Reported Offense: Thursday morning around 7:45 AM a man was approached on the sidewalk by two men, one of whom pointed a small handgun at the victim while the other demanded the victim’s personal items, including his coat. The men exited a blue 2018 Audi driven by a third man. This occurred at the intersection of W Walton St. and N Wells St., just east of Lot B. The vehicle was stolen earlier in the day.

Suspect:
Suspect 1: Male; 5’10-6”; Age 16-22; African American; 150-180 lbs; black hoodie; black pants, white shoes
Suspect 2: Male: 5’8-5;10”; Age 14-18; African American; 120-160 lbs; light hoodie, light cap, whitewashed jeans, white shoes
Suspect 3: Driver- Male; African American
Vehicle: Blue Audi X562250 (IL)

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is handling the investigation.

October 12, 2018 - Indecent Exposure

Reported Offense: Friday morning around 10:35 AM a student was called over towards a vehicle parked on LaSalle Blvd. just south of Oak St. The male occupant asked for directions. After the student provided directed the male driver exposed himself to her.

Suspect: The suspect is described as a male, African-American, late teens to early 20s wearing a hat. He was sitting in a black or dark blue sedan.

Investigation: The student was encouraged to file a police report.

October 5, 2018 - Robbery

Reported Offense: Friday morning around 10:35 AM a student was attempting to sell an item, which he posted on Facebook Marketplace, to an individual. The individual offered the student fake money and then attempted to pull the phone from the student’s hand. When the student refused to let go of the phone, the individual punched the student’s left shoulder. The student began walking away from the individual. This occurred on the sidewalk just west of Fitzwater Hall at approx. 815 N Wells St.


Suspect:
 The suspect is described as a male, black, 5’5” – 5’7” and approx. 150lbs. He identified as himself as Pierre White.


Investigation:
The Chicago Police Department is handling the investigation.

February 13, 2018 - Motor Vehicle Theft and Aggravated Assault

Reported Offense: Tuesday evening around 10:45 PM a man was removed from his vehicle by force and the vehicle was stolen. This occurred on the street at 220 W Walton St. just south of the Solheim Center. The victim was not a member of the Moody Community.

Suspect: The suspect was later involved in a traffic accident, detained, and is being held at a nearby hospital in serious condition.

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is handling the investigation.

October 28, 2017 - Aggravated Assault

On Saturday evening, around 10:20 PM, a male Moody student was approached on the sidewalk on the east side of the Sweeting Center by seven men ranging from ages 14-22. The Moody student was struck in the upper body by one suspect with a hard object while others stood by filming it on their phones.

August 20, 2017 - Assault

On Sunday afternoon, around 2:00 PM, two Moody students were assaulted in the 900 block of N LaSalle Blvd, on the east side of the Sweeting Center. The victims were walking south behind another man. As the victims approached the suspect to pass him, he turned around and challenged the victims.

The suspect reportedly pushed one of the victims before forcefully taking an item from the other victim and throwing it on the ground. The suspect left the scene on foot southbound on LaSalle Blvd. The suspect has not been identified at this time. The Chicago Police Department was notified and the victims filed a police report.

January 4, 2017- Aggravated Assault

Reported Offense: Monday evening around 7:45 PM a man was approached at 821 N Wells St. by two men who hit him the face with a belt and attempted to stab him with an edged weapon. This incident possibly followed another incident that occurred off campus. No one involved in this incident appears related to Moody.

Suspect 1: Hispanic, Male, 5'8", approximately 170 lbs, black coat, blue jeans, mustache
Suspect 2: Hispanic, Male, 5'9", approximately 250 lbs, black jeans, buzz cut hair

Investigation: The Chicago Police Department is investigating the incident.

October 26, 2016 - Robbery

Reported Offense: Thursday evening around 5:15 PM a student was approached outside of Walgreens at 315 W Chicago Ave. by a man who grabbed her arm and forced her inside the store. Once inside the store he threatened her with violence and forced her to buy him items. The two then exited the store and the man grabbed the student again when a bystander intervened and the suspect left with his items.

Suspect: 1 unknown suspect, male; African American, medium build, appx 6’ tall, gray hair, wearing a black knit cap and knee-length navy blue jacket.

Investigation:
Public Safety is investigating the incident.
